Assertiveness is the ability to express one's feelings, opinions, beliefs and needs directly, openly and honestly. Assertive communication requires asserting one's rights whilst respecting the feelings and rights of another. This course is focused on the techniques mental health professionals can use to assist clients in communicating assertively.

In this course you will learn: What assertiveness is; The benefits of being assertive; How assertiveness compares to other behaviours; Why learn to be assertive is important; The communication style continuum; Types of assertive behaviour (I-language, Assertiveness, Escalating Assertiveness, Empathic Assertiveness and Basic Assertiveness) and; Assertiveness skills training.
