About this course

In this course, Dr. Cirecie West-Olatunji (Ph.D., Professor of Counsellor Education at Xavier University; Director of the Centre for Equity, Justice, and the Human Spirit) shares a rationale for decentralising western ideology and explains the notion of historical trauma with respect to minoritised communities. It is within our remit as mental health professionals to counter systemic oppression and historical trauma; we can do that better when we understand traumatic stress theory and shift to culture-centred foundations; West-Olatunji gives an overview of these. She completes the lecture with an overview of ways to decolonise a mental health practice; a Q & A session follows.
