About this course

In this course, Amanda Giordano, Ph.D., LPC, Associate Professor at University of Georgia, offers both a clear conceptualisation of what constitutes addiction and a rationale for why clinicians need to know about it. Using the Public Health Model of behavioural addictions, Giordano explains the four components which determine whether an addiction will occur, and how each contributes to the ultimate addiction; two models for understanding behavioural addiction are outlined. The bulk of the course deals with the characteristics and treatment considerations for each of the four most prevalent behavioural addictions: internet gaming addiction, sex/pornography addiction, gambling addiction, and food addiction.
