Reflective practice is fundamental to effective counselling. Without continual upgrading and refinement of skills, one's effectiveness as a mental health practitioner may decline and their enthusiasm may wane. Professionals need to not only be aware of their skills, knowledge and performance but also mindful of any personal factors that may interfere or impede their ability to provide an effective and objective service.
