In this course, Dr. Mamun Ala explains how counsellors and helping professionals can strengthen their cultural competence to provide more inclusive, respectful, and ethically responsive care. Drawing on clinical experience, professional practice, and qualitative research with practising counsellors, he examines how culture shapes clients' experiences of wellbeing, distress, help-seeking, communication, family relationships, and healing. You will learn practical strategies for developing cultural self-awareness, cultural humility, culturally sensitive questioning, trust-building skills, culturally informed case conceptualisation, intervention adaptation, and ethical decision-making. The course provides practical tools to strengthen therapeutic relationships, improve engagement, reduce misunderstandings, and deliver culturally responsive care across a wide range of client populations.
