Culturally Responsive Counselling Supervision: Unpacking Bias and Increasing Self-Awareness in Case Conceptualisation

In this course, Dr. Rhemma Payne shows you how you can do or guide supervisees to do case conceptualisations with cultural responsiveness. Two vignettes offer the opportunity to pause and reflect on the concepts presented.

About this course

In this course, Dr. Rhemma Payne (Ph.D., NCC, ACS, BC-TMH, LMHC) looks through the lens of cultural responsiveness to propose that case conceptualisations be done with regard to not only diagnostic and clinical formulation, but also cultural formulation. She emphasises the need for professionals to recognise the importance of mutual empathy, to bring themselves responsibly into the room, and to address power and privilege imbalances. Noting peak body ethical requirements for infusing multicultural issues into all courses, workshops, and supervision, Dr. Payne discusses how cultural competence and cultural humility can combine to create cultural responsiveness. Payne offers two vignettes for reflection.
