Dialectical Behaviour Therapy: Case Studies

In this course, case studies are presented of Sandy, a 39-year-old woman with bulimia nervosa and Aidan, a 20-year-old man who experienced sexual abuse as a child. Both clients go through a DBT program adapted for their needs: eating disorders in Sandy’s case and complex PTSD in Aidan’s. The contents of each program are outlined and highlighting vignettes detailed as the two clients undergo demanding but life-changing therapy programs.

About this course

In this course, attendees study the course of therapy undergone by Sandy, a 39-year-old woman with bulimia nervosa, and Aidan, a 20-year-old man who experienced sexual abuse as a child. Neither client is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (the disorder for which DBT was originally developed), but both clients experience emotional dysregulation and consequent maladaptive means of dealing with emotions. Sandy is not co-morbid with other disorders and Aidan has been diagnosed with complex PTSD. The program followed by the therapists of each of the clients is outlined, along with vignettes which highlight the challenges each client faces in overcoming a condition preventing them from having a high-quality life.
