About this course

In this course, Dr. Manaan Kar Ray (Director, Suicide Prevention Framework, Division of Mental Health, Princess Alexandra Hospital; Associate Professor at the Institute for Australian Suicide and Prevention Research, Griffith University), cites grim statistics about youth suicide rates in numerous countries. In response, Dr. Kar Ray and his team have produced resources: a book and workbooks for adult clients, a series of 20 children’s books, and an app, which Dr. Kar Ray guides us through. Based on acceptance and commitment therapy, it has four steps to help those with “unbearable suffering” transform it into “bearable pain” (given that we cannot often change reality but can change how we respond to it). In this HOPE framework, values are central, and Dr. Kar Ray explains how they can be clarified and integrated into life goals to create a meaningful life with values-guided committed actions.
