Diversity and Inclusion in Lived Experience or Exclusion and Lateral Violence Against the Most Vulnerable

In this course, Graeme Holdsworth explains how suicide attempt survivors have been a group “hidden” among other suicide statistics and advocates for a separate national health lived experience peak body for suicide attempt survivors to decrease stigma and marginalisation of these vulnerable individuals.

About this course

In this course, Graeme Holdsworth, Lifeline Lived Experience Advisory Group, discusses why and how suicide attempt survivors are typically excluded from participation in groups dealing with suicide prevention. Despite the many millions of people affected by a suicide attempt, there is a sore lack of data on suicide attempts, resulting in low funding and research for this group. Holdsworth explains how the lack of a universal aftercare system and a separate mental health lived experience peak body could help to decrease the stigma and exclusion for suicide attempt survivors.
