About this course

In this course, epidemiologist Dr. Duleeka Knipe, Ph.D., introduces evidence-based insights into the intersection between domestic abuse and suicide. Drawing from global and Australian data, Dr. Knipe explores the prevalence of abuse in suicide and self-harm cases, highlights both victims and perpetrators as underserved populations, and examines barriers mental health professionals face in identifying and responding to domestic abuse. The course also outlines the promising IRIS intervention model, which offers a framework for improving care pathways within mental health services. Clinicians will leave with a deeper understanding of the scope of the issue, challenges in routine inquiry, and the need for system-wide cultural change to improve detection and support.
