About this course

In this course, Dr. Shea Dunham, an expert in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), holds the fifth and final session with Danielle and Jay, an Afro-American couple who have come to session to work on trust in their marriage. Dr. Dunham's overall goal has been to help repair attachment injuries, teach the couple to negotiate different attachment styles, and build security and trust. In this session, she moves them along the spectrum towards greater capacity for emotional expression with each other and facilitates an overview/summary of what progress has been made during the sessions. In the second segment of the course, series host Dr. Shannon Dermer asks Jay and Danielle how the therapeutic process was for them. In the final segment, Dermer and Dunham utilise the context of the five sessions to broaden the discussion to questions of how matters of race and other differences between therapist and client must be tended to in building a therapeutic alliance.
