How Can School Counsellors and School Administrators Collaborate to Promote Equity and Inclusion

In this course, Dr. Carol Dahir invokes the principles of DEI to outline how school counsellors can collaborate with administrators to address inequities and biases.

About this course

In this course, Dr. Carol Dahir (Ed.D., School Counseling Department, New York Institute of Technology) reviews what school counsellors and administrators expect from each other as they both work to create safe, inclusive school environments. Distinguishing between equality and equity, Dr. Dahir outlines the global, community, and individual factors which have led to many students feeling unsafe – including culturally – at school. Employing SEL skills and using DEI principles to address bias and racist practices can help create a culturally affirming, inclusive environment. Dahir lists the main points for a collaborative action plan and provides lists of resources.
