How to Listen so Parents Will Talk: Strategies for Influencing Parents

In this course, Dr John Sommers-Flanagan, professor and counsellor-educator at the University of Montana, discusses what children need from their parents, what parents need from therapists, and how therapists can help parents to be the kind of parent they wish to be. Dr Sommers-Flanagan advises an empathetic, collaborative approach in which parents are given a new attitude, helped to make a plan, and encouraged to get support for their new ways of parenting. The “Grandma’s rule” technique is explained.
