About this course

In this course, Sue Langley (CEO and founder of the Langley Group; academic directory, Langley Group Institute) reviews basic facts about the human microbiome and the roles of the chief types of microbes, followed by a discussion of the many disorders – both physical and mental – now known to be linked to gut dysbiosis – and the many modern-day factors (such as overuse of antibiotics) associated with that. Langley explains how certain foods (pre-biotics) can feed the commensals, or good bacteria, while detailing a few substances (e.g., sugar, cortisol) which function as “food” for the pathogens in and on us. Her message is hopeful; we can change the microbiome to enjoy better health!
