About this course
This course is delivered by Dr Devika Dibya Choudhuri, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, CMHC, ACS, Certified EMDR therapist, Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Eastern Michigan University. After defining key terms and noting the main features of sexuality, Dr Choudhuri embarks on a lifespan tour of sexual development, beginning in infancy and passing through puberty, adolescence, young adulthood, middle adulthood, and elder sexuality. She also discusses sexual orientation, pregnancy, infertility, illness/disability, and trauma through the lens of healthy sexual development – and how those conditions may impede the experience and expression of it. Dr Choudhuri includes two checklists for counsellors to assess whether they may need to either do personal work or upskill in order to work with clients presenting with issues of sexuality.
