STEPS 4 HOPE: Conversational Threadwork of Values at Suicidal Stitchpoints

In this course, Dr. Manaan Kar Ray explains how to meet suicidal “stitch points” with values-based conversational threadwork – weaving STEPS (mapping distress) together with HOPE (values as anchors) via the VALUE micro-intervention, grounded in MI and ACT, to deepen relational safety and restore direction, identity, and meaning in moments of crisis.

About this course

In this course, psychiatrist Dr. Manaan Kar Ray, MBBS, FRANZCP, introduces a practical synthesis of STEPS (a teaching paradigm to understand the act-physiology and progression of suicidality) and HOPE (a values-guided compass), culminating in VALUE—a five-move conversational rhythm. Clinicians learn to identify stitch points, sit beside pain rather than “fix” it, and guide values-anchored actions that strengthen relational safety and identity repair across ideation, post-attempt, and recovery contexts.
