In this course, Dr. Cirecie West-Olatunji (Xavier University of Louisiana) provides an overview of the aetiology of traumatic stress, client populations, and associated interventions. Issues of social marginalisation, such as racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, religious bias, and bullying will be discussed. Upon participating in this course, participants will increase knowledge about: Traumatic stress and how it differs from posttraumatic stress disorder; The relationship between social marginalisation and evidence of traumatic stress symptomology, and; specific interventions proven effective in addressing traumatic stress due to social marginalisation. The course concludes with a short Q&A session with Dr. West-Olatunji.
