The Science Behind Tapping: The Fourth Wave in Body-based Therapy Approaches

In this course, Dr. Peta Stapleton (Bond University) explains the procedure and evidence-based rationale for Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), or tapping.

About this course

In this course, Dr. Peta Stapleton, clinical and health psychologist and Professor at Bond University, defends why EFT, or tapping, is the most promising of the “fourth wave” psychotherapies now emerging. Individual psychotherapy is considered to have developed in three great waves: psychoanalysis, behavioural, and humanistic approaches. The emergence of brief psychotherapies that include a somatic component (e.g. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, or EMDR) are now being considered psychotherapy’s fourth wave. The course explains the features that distinguish tapping as a fourth wave therapy and presents recent research supporting the science behind its somatic components.
