Treating Trauma and Addiction with the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model

In this course, Jan Winhall explores the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model – a revolutionary approach that integrates somatic therapy, neuroscience, and polyvagal theory to treat trauma and addiction. Participants learn how to move beyond pathologising models and apply nervous system-based interventions to promote healing and recovery.

About this course

In this course, Jan Winhall (MSW, RSW; psychotherapist & educator) introduces the Felt Sense Polyvagal Model (FSPM), a paradigm-shifting approach that views trauma and addiction as adaptive survival mechanisms rather than pathology. Drawing from polyvagal theory, somatic therapy, and neuroplasticity research, this course teaches clinicians how to recognise and work with autonomic nervous system states to support healing. Participants will explore evidence-based interventions, including felt sensing, co-regulation strategies, and embodied mindfulness techniques, enabling them to help clients develop adaptive state regulation and break free from maladaptive survival loops.
