<p>Brandee M. Appling, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, CPCS, ACS is an Associate Professor at the University of Georgia who specialises in school counselling. She has over 17 years of experience in education with over 11 years as a school counsellor where she has worked at every level.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Dr. Appling is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS), a CCE Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and holds her school counselling certification in GA for grades P-12. Her years spent in K-12 garnered her valuable experience in working with youth and parents in areas such as working with diverse youth, school counsellor collaboration with clinical mental health counsellors, sexting, substance use and addictive gaming behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, students with disabilities and crisis response. Dr. Appling works to advance the school counselling field with rigorous research and practical application, and continues to provide service to schools and school counsellors through various trainings and professional development opportunities and substituting as a school counsellor when possible.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Dr. Appling&rsquo;s research is highly practitioner-focused for school counsellors. She has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters as well as presented over 40 presentations at the state, regional, national and international level. She has received several awards including Middle School Counselor of the Year for Gwinnett County Public Schools, Region 2 Georgia School Counselor of the Year, SACES Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, and the Alabama Counseling Association Individual Publication Award.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Dr. Appling is often invited to guest lecture to current school counsellors and school counsellors-in-training as well as clinicians and youth workers serving diverse youth in underserved communities. She has been a Co-PI on several grants totalling over $3,600,000 and has experience as an editorial board member for Journal of Counseling &amp; Development and is a member of several other ACA divisions.</p>
