Expert Bio

Dr. Constance West is a licensed, clinical psychologist who specialises in the areas of health clinical psychology and juvenile forensics. Dr. West graduated from Stanford University in May 1989, when she obtained a bachelor's degree in Human Biology. She obtained her master’s and doctoral degrees in Health Clinical Psychology from the University of Miami (in 1997 and 1999, respectively). Following graduate school, Dr. West completed a psychology internship program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham; and a 2-year, NIMH-funded postdoctoral fellowship in HIV/AIDS Clinical Research through Emory University's School of Medicine. As a scientist-practitioner in the area of health clinical psychology, Dr. West has over 10 years of research/clinical experience that has focused primarily on HIV prevention and treatment (particularly, related to African-American women and adolescents), as well as stress and coping with acute and chronic stressors(including, caregiving, HIV/AIDS, and natural disasters). She has considerable experience in conducting and/or coordinating community outreach initiatives aimed at increasing the participation of African-Americans in a variety of mental and physical health programs. In addition, Dr. West has had extensive experience supervising staff and students/volunteers in the development, implementation, and evaluation of research projects and programs. In addition, she has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in areas of research design and statistical analysis. While in academic settings, Dr. West actively participated in the process of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at annual conferences and meetings. In the area of forensic psychology, Dr. West has over 10 years of clinical and/or administrative experience working with youth involved in the juvenile justice system (both inpatient and outpatient settings).
