Dr. George Karpetis is an adjunct senior lecturer and researcher at the University of Adelaide. He holds Ph.D. and Master Degrees in social work and he is also trained in child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy. He worked for 8 years in a Community Mental Health Centre for Children and Adolescents, for 4 years at a deinstitutionalisation hostel for adolescents, for 10 years at a therapeutic centre for children with autism and psychosis, and for 20 years in private clinical practice. For the last 12 years Dr Karpetis has been lecturing in social work. He is an accredited social worker in Australia and the UK, an editorial board member for the Social Work Education journal, and an assessor for many social work journals. Dr Karpetis is a practitioner-researcher and his research interests include evaluation of mental health practice process and effectiveness, clinical supervision and practice learning. Dr Karpetis has published on psychodynamic work with parents, on supervision, on clinical professional identities and on organisational dynamics.
