<p>With 14 years of experience in workplace mental health and suicide prevention, Jorgen Gullestrup works from a lived experience informed framework. A plumber by trade Jorgen discovered the value of a supportive employer as part of his recovery from mental ill-health and suicidality. Jorgen’s career has taken him from a plumber on the tools to an industry leader. Jorgen was an official with the Queensland Plumbers Union for 13 years and served as state secretary for 7 years. In 2007 Jorgen led the development of the MATES in Construction program, a program now implemented nationally in Australia and New Zealand as well as across the Mining and Energy industries as well. The MATES in Construction is recognised by the World Health Organisation as best practice in building stronger communities. Jorgen holds a Masters in Suicidology, a Diploma in Community and Social Development, an Associate Diploma in Labour Studies. He is currently a confirmed PhD candidate at Deakin University researching the impact of Male help offering in suicide prevention.<p>
