Juan Camarena

Dr. Juan Camarena is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and Sex Therapist certified by the American Association for Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists. Dr. Camarena is the Executive Director of the Center for Community Counseling and Engagement, is a Lecturer in the Community-Based Block Licensed Professional Clinical Counseling Program at San Diego State University, provides psychotherapy at his independent practice, and trains other therapists on working effectively and compassionately with LGBTQIA+ individuals.<br/><br/>Dr. Camarena earned his Master of Science degree in Counseling from San Diego State University with concentrations in Multicultural Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, and School Counseling. He also earned his Master of Education degree and PhD in the clinical track of Widener University's Center for Human Sexuality Studies. Dr. Camarena worked in outpatient community mental health for the bulk of his career and brings that lens to his teaching at CIIS and various non-profit agencies where he consults.
