Expert Bio

Dr. Lori A. Russell-Chapin Ph.D and is a Professor of Counsellor Education at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois in the United States. She is also the Associate Dean of the College of Education and Health Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in Counsellor Education from the University of Wyoming and her Master’s in Counsellor Education from Eastern Montana College. Dr. Russell-Chapin served as the chairperson of the Department of Education, Nonprofits and Counseling for 11 years. Currently one of her favorite roles is co-directing the Center for Collaborative Brain Research (CCBR), a partnership among Bradley University, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and the Illinois Neurological Institute. As the chair of the newly established ACA Neurocounseling Interest Network and the co-chair of the monthly Counseling Today column, Bridging Brain and Behavior, Dr. Russell-Chapin is excited about the neurocounselling movement of integrating the brain and behaviour into our counselling practices. Dr. Russell-Chapin practices counselling part-time, and also presents workshops locally, regionally, nationally and internationally on issues of clinical supervision, neurofeedback, epigenetics, brain-based counseling interventions, self-regulation, diversity, assertiveness, conflict resolution, and grief and loss. She has published in state, national and international journals. She has also authored one book, co-authored six books, and written extensively on supervision issues, clinical supervision, neurofeedback, epigenetics, and brain-based counselling interventions. Her two most recent co-authored books are Neurotherapy and Neurofeedback: Brain-based Interventions for Psychological and Behavioral Problems (Routledge, 2014) with Dr. Ted Chapin and Your Supervised Practicum and Internship: Field Resources for Turning Theory into Action (Routledge, currently in press) with Dr. Nancy Sherman and Dr. Allen Ivey.
