Lotes Nelson is a Clinical Faculty at Southern New Hampshire University. She received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University.<br/><br/> She is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, a NC Board Approved Supervisor, an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a National Board for Certified Counselor (NBCC) Minority Fellow. In additional to Dr. Nelson’s Counselor Education role, she also provides clinical supervision and counseling. Her areas of expertise include counselor education and supervision, multiculturalism, trauma-informed care; eating disorders, and various areas of adolescent mental health. She is passionate about serving the underserved populations and trauma-focused counseling. She works very closely with individuals who have migrated to the US and are adjusting to life in the mainstream. She maintains her advocacy involvement in her immediate community and nationally, to continue to raise mental health awareness by profoundly engaging in professional conference presentations and providing mental health wellness workshops.<br/><br/>She is committed to continuing to strengthen her professional identity and maintains her professional affiliations with many professional organizations, such as, the American Counseling Association (ACA); Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES); Chi Sigma Iota (CSI); Licensed Professional Counselors Association of North Carolina (LPCANC); Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES); Association for Creativity in Counseling (ACC); Florida Counseling Association (FCA); and the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA).
