Stacey Freedenthal

Stacey Freedenthal, Ph.D., LCSW, writes and teaches extensively about suicide risk assessment and intervention. She has authored two books: Helping the Suicidal Person: Tips and Techniques for Professionals (2018) and Loving Someone with Suicidal Thoughts: What Family, Friends, and Partners Can Say and Do (2023). Dr. Freedenthal has also published scholarly articles about the measurement of suicidal intent, youth’s help-seeking when suicidal, and other topics related to suicide risk. As an Associate Professor at the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work, Dr. Freedenthal teaches classes on suicide assessment and intervention and clinical social work practice. She also maintains a private psychotherapy and consulting practice specializing in helping people who have experienced suicidal thoughts, attempted suicide, or lost a loved one to suicide.
