Beyond Gatekeeper Training: Safety and Compassion-driven Leadership

In this course, Carmen Betterridge, Director and Principal Psychologist of Suicide Risk Assessment Australia, proposes that gatekeeper training with respect to suicide prevention in workplaces is necessary but not sufficient. Rather, the most successful suicide prevention also requires safety- and compassion-driven leadership. Betterridge explains the relationship of systems of care and the team environment to the achievement of suicide prevention. She examines what compassion-driven leadership is in the context of achieving psychological health and safety in workplaces and suggests how we can move beyond gatekeeper training.
