Multi-Tiered, Multi-Domain System of Supports: A Comprehensive Model for School-Based Student Service Providers

In this course, Dr. Trish Hatch and Dr. Danielle Duarte present a framework to help school-based service providers offer their services as optimally and with as few gaps and overlaps as possible. The model expands on the well-known “RtI” (response to intervention) notion of three tiers of service, proceeding from universal to intensive and individualised.

About this course

In this course, Dr. Trish Hatch (Founder and CEO, Hatching Results, LLC; Prof. Emeritus, San Diego State University) and Danielle Duarte (Author and Chief of Operations Officer, Hatching Results) briefly traces the history of the original tiered model of services, the RtI (Response to Intervention), through the later MTSS (multi-tiered support services) to the model which they promote: the MTMDSS (Multi-Tiered, Multi-Domain System of Supports) Model. They discuss the advantages of the MTMDSS, including that it pays sufficient attention to the domain of college and career preparedness and that it has planning templates that allow schools and school districts to see which mental health professional is providing which service for which students (according to the tier where they need support). Drs. Hatch and Duarte stress that optimal use of the model is via predetermined data metrics and proactive collection of that data at regular intervals.
